Local Books

This section is always a best seller, with customers eager to find out the history of those places they live, work and visit.  The early history of the valley was covered by Asa Fairfield in his book Fairfield's Pioneer History of Lassen County.  Asa wrote the book in the 1920's and his history covers Lassen county up to 1870.

The best books written on the history of Lassen County are those written by local Historian Tim Purdy.  Whether it is his marvelous county wide Lassen County Almanac (My favorite. Tim casts a wide net in taking on the entire county but it doesn't look like he left much out.), to At A Glance, A History of Susanville.

Another wonderful addition to local memory is editor Candace Toft's Small Moments in Time: Memories of Lassen County. The diverse and endlessly entertaining citizens of Lassen County tell true tales and tall tales. With an added dose of poetry.
